Vol. 46 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Upperchurch (Tipperary) Funeral.

asked the President whether he is aware that it is reported in the Press that at a funeral at Upperchurch, Co. Tipperary, on the 19th February, at which he is stated to have been represented by the Vice-President, three volleys were discharged over the grave and whether he will state by whom these volleys were fired, the number and the make of the weapons used and whether these weapons were lawfully in the possession of the parties in question, and whether they were lawfully used on the occasion.

I have seen the Press report to which the Deputy refers. The Vice-President was not in the cemetery on the occasion in the question. I am informed that no members of the Gárda were present, and I am, therefore, not in a position to say whether the other statements mentioned in the question are accurate.

Has the President requested the Guards to make inquiries?

The Gardaí are pursuing inquiries.

Is the President able to inform me when it is likely the Guards' inquiries will be completed?

I purpose putting down another question on the matter and perhaps the President will inform me when he thinks it likely he will be in a position to answer?

I cannot say when.
