Vol. 46 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Appointment of Galway Clerk of Works.

Mr. Brodrick

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if the Galway Board of Health and Hospital and Dispensaries Committee appointed a clerk of works in connection with the clearing of a site at Central Hospital, Galway, and, if so, whether the position was advertised; what were the terms of the appointment and the qualifications of the person appointed, and whether his sanction was requested and given in this case.

I understand that the appointment referred to by the Deputy was made by the Board on the 8th ultimo. No application for sanction has so far been received.

Mr. Brodrick

Are the members of the Board of Health empowered to employ a clerk of works—are they empowered to advertise for such an official without sanction previously from the Minister?

I am not in a position at present to furnish the Deputy with further details. The usual query forms have gone out to the local authority. If the Deputy thinks it well to put down a question in a week's time, I will probably be able to give him further information.

Mr. Brodrick

If such an appointment is necessary, will the Parliamentary Secretary see that it is properly advertised?

I will undertake to look into the matter.

Mr. Brodrick

Who will be responsible in the meantime for the remuneration of the present clerk of works?

I am not in a position to supply the Deputy with further information at the moment.
