Vol. 47 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Distribution in Galway.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he has received a request from Mr. Robert P. Burke, Toghermore, Tuam, to inspect the lands owned by him at Shantallow and Ballynakilla, Tuam (Folio No. 4115 R.O. 84/3700) with a view to the acquisition and distribution of the lands; if he will state whether the Land Commission propose to acquire the lands and, if so, when.

Following on an intimation by the owner that he was willing to sell to the Land Commission his lands at Shantallow and Ballynakilla, a report and valuation of these lands was made by an inspector, and the question of acquisition is at present under consideration by the Land Commission.

As there are many uneconomic holders in the area, could the Minister give any idea when the land is likely to be acquired?

The question of acquisition is at present under consideration. There are a number of congests in the districts. As a matter of fact, the inspection arose out of representations made by local congests. We hope to do it as quickly as we can.
