Vol. 48 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of Black River on Sligo-Mayo Border.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state what is the present position regarding the drainage of the Black River on the Sligo-Mayo border which has been under consideration in connection with a comprehensive scheme for the drainage of the River Moy and its tributaries, and if he can indicate whether work on the scheme will be undertaken during the present summer months.

As the Deputy has already been informed, a petition under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1925, for the drainage of portion of the Black River has been under consideration in connection with a comprehensive drainage scheme for the River Moy and certain tributaries. This large scheme has been before the County Councils of Sligo and Mayo for a considerable time, and until a definite decision has been reached in regard to it, the Commissioners of Public Works are not disposed to investigate the possibility of proceeding with the component tributary proposals as separate drainage schemes.
