Vol. 48 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Infants' All-Irish School.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state how many pupils passed from the Infants' All Irish School in Marlborough Street to the primary school in which all instruction is imparted through the medium of Irish in each of the years from 1925 to 1932 and how many infants were on the rolls of the above-mentioned infants' school in each of these years.

The All-Irish School for Infants in Marlborough Street commenced operation on the 6th October, 1930.

The number of infants who passed from the school at the close of each school year, during which it has been in operation, to the primary school in which all instruction is imparted through the medium of Irish, was 55 (15 boys and 40 girls) on the 30th June, 1931, and 66 (19 boys and 47 girls) on the 30th June, 1932.

The average number of children on the roll of this school for infants was, for the year ended 30th June, 1931, 100, and for the year ended 30th June, 1932, 167.

May I ask the Minister if he thinks those figures are sufficient to convince him that the system at present in force is the best that can be devised in order to make Irish speakers of the infant children?
