Vol. 48 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Damage by Seals in Bantry.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he is aware that seals are doing considerable damage to all classes of fish and fishing gear in Bantry Bay, and if any steps will be taken by his Department to cope with the problem.

I understand that rewards for seals shot are offered by the District Board of Conservators. I am not aware that the depredations of seals in Bantry Bay are now more severe than in the past. I regret that there are no funds at the disposal of this Department to cope with the problem.
