Vol. 48 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Limerick Drainage Scheme.

asked the Minister for Finance if the report from the statutory inquiry recently held in connection with the Mulkear Drainage Scheme, County Limerick, has yet been received, and, if so, if he can indicate when the work, so urgently needed, will be commenced.

The report of their investigator on the public inquiry in respect of objections to the Mulkear and Cappamore Drainage Scheme has been received by the Commissioners of Public Works and is under consideration. The recommendations resulting from the inquiry will involve considerable revision in the exhibited scheme and it is not possible at present to forecast when the actual works can be begun. I may assure the Deputy that no avoidable delay will occur.

Perhaps the Minister could see his way to facilitate the pushing forward of this scheme so that there would be a possibility that work would at least commence before the end of this summer? If the Minister looks at the records he will find that this scheme has been going on for years. I am not accusing the Minister's Department of any laxity in the matter but if the Minister could possibly expedite the scheme so that the work would commence before the end of the summer it would be a great advantage to the people there and would be very much needed.

I may point out to the Deputy that this scheme has made considerable progress in the last few months.
