Vol. 48 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bounty on Sheep.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that owing to the economic war, farmers in mountainous districts, whose principal means of livelihood is the raising of sheep, find themselves in serious financial difficulty as they are unable to get a remunerative outlet for their stock, and whether in the circumstances he is prepared to consider the question of increasing the bounty on sheep and lambs in order to help to tide these people over a trying period.

In fixing the rates of export bounty upon the different classes of live stock, all the factors in the case, including that referred to in the question, have been taken into consideration. I am not prepared to increase the existing rate of bounty on sheep and lambs exported.
