Vol. 49 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Corporation Relief Work.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if any decision has been arrived at with regard to the application by the Dublin Corporation for £100,000 grant for relief work, and whether he is aware that the Corporation engineers have schemes prepared, and that the Corporation is prepared to advance £40,000 for materials in the event of this grant being sanctioned.

The Department is in communication with the Corporation on this matter. In the allocation to the Dublin Corporation of whatever moneys are available for relief work due consideration will be given to this matter.

Will the Minister take into consideration that the Dublin Corporation so far is the only council in Ireland that offers to contribute a fair proportion to the relief of unemployment, in making the allocation.

I do not think that it is quite accurate to say that the Dublin Corporation is the only body that makes a fair contribution. There are other bodies, but all these matters will be taken fully into consideration.

Will the Minister take into consideration the fact that people are flocking from all parts of Ireland into Dublin and will he take into consideration this matter when considering the allocation of the grants?

All these matters will be fully considered.
