Vol. 49 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish School Books.

asked the Minister for Education whether he is aware that in the list of books sanctioned for use in the national schools, no books in Irish for infant classes are included; whether it is the policy of his Department to encourage the reading of Irish in the senior infants' classes and, if so, if he can give a list of the books sanctioned for these classes.

I am aware that no books in Irish for infant classes are included in the list of books sanctioned for use in national schools. The official programme does not prescribe and it is not the policy of my Department to encourage the reading of Irish in infant classes.
