Vol. 49 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Directory of Industry.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when he proposes to issue the promised Directory of Irish Industry, and what is the cause of the delay in its issue.

I regret that I am not yet in a position to say when this Directory will be published. The delay is due to pressure of work in my Department. Staffing arrangements have now been made, however, which will permit of the work being proceeded with as rapidly as possible.

Will the Minister say exactly for what purpose this Directory is going to be issued?

That is a different question. The Directory will be published for the information of those who want the information.

The Minister is aware that the last difficulty he had was that the industrial situation was changing so rapidly that it was impossible to fix on a particular date.

The longer we keep it, the more up-to-date it will be.

On the last occasion we were told it was impossible to fix a particular date because the industrial situation was changing so rapidly. Do I understand that difficulty does not now exist and that it is a difficulty of employment that exists at present?

The fact is that we had not got the necessary staff to permit the work being proceeded with.
