Vol. 49 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Flooding of Black River (Tipperary).

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the great damage caused by the flooding of the Black River, County Tipperary, during the winter months; and if he will state if it is intended to proceed with the Black River drainage scheme, and if so, if steps will be taken to have the drainage of this river undertaken as soon as possible and thereby relieve the acute unemployment existing in the district at present.

As a result of the public inquiry in respect of objections to this scheme certain modifications had to be made. The amended scheme is now being considered with a view to work being started at an early date.

Does the Minister accept as correct the statement by Deputy Fogarty that acute unemployment is existing in that district?

I have no information on that matter.

Deputy Fogarty has.

The Minister might get it from him.
