Vol. 49 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Deputy's Visit to Glasgow.

asked the President whether any criminal proceedings have been or are intended to be instituted against the person or persons responsible for the making of the false charges against Deputy Richard Mulcahy in connection with his visit to Glasgow.

The answer is in the negative.

Arising out of the President's reply, I want to ask if he would have any objection to stating whether the individual in question has been or is in Government employment?

I have already stated that I do not intend to add anything to the statement I have already made.

Will the President say whether the reason is that this dirty tool is likely to be wanted again?

Will the President say whether he will institute any action in that matter?

Will the President say why he does not institute proceedings for criminal libel against this individual, and what is the reason why the President is shielding this individual if there is an individual existing?

Might I inquire if the information reached the President from a paid servant of the Irish Press?

Or if it is a fact that paid servants of the Irish Press have their emoluments supplemented from the moneys voted for the Secret Service Fund?

There is no truth whatever in that statement.

The President will answer that all right.
