Vol. 49 No. 19

Taxation of Foreign Motor Vehicles. - International Convention Approved.

In the absence of the Minister for External Affairs, I move:—

That the Dáil approves of the International Convention on the Taxation of Foreign Motor Vehicles, with Annex and Protocol-Annex, signed at Geneva on the 30th March, 1931, a copy of which was laid on the Table of the Dáil on the 11th day of October, 1933, and recommends the Executive Council to take the necessary steps to accede to the said International Convention with Annex and Protocol-Annex.

In 1931 a conference was held at Geneva under the auspices of the League of Nations for the purpose of facilitating international motor traffic by an arrangement for as wide an exemption as possible of foreign motor vehicles from taxation. This conference adopted a convention which came into force on the 9th May, 1933, and to this convention it is now proposed formally to accede.
