Vol. 50 No. 1

Written Answer. - Maps of Holdings.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he is in a position to supply maps of holdings which are subject to a Land Commission annuity to the annuitants in cases where the Land Registry is unable to do so as a result of the destruction of their records by fire.

It is not the practice of the Land Commission to issue maps of registered holdings which are subject to land purchase annuities.

Copy maps of registered holdings are issued by the Land Registry, and applicants to the Land Commission for such copy maps are referred to the Land Registry Department. The Land Registry furnish maps to applicants therefor when possible, and if the folio map has been destroyed by fire, application is made by them to the Land Commission for a loan of the estate map in order to make a copy. In cases where a Land Commission estate map (lent to the Land Registry to prepare folio maps on registration) has also been destroyed by fire in the Four Courts and a new map has not been constructed, a copy map cannot be supplied. It is understood that the Land Registry is gradually reconstructing the maps destroyed and thereby restoring the records.
