Vol. 50 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Athlone Wireless Station.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state what is the correct official description of the wireless station at or near Athlone, whether any of the separate halls or rooms of this station have been named; if so, has this been done with official sanction; if so, what is the name or names sanctioned; on what basis of selection was any particular name chosen; and by what body was (a) the selection made and (b) sanction given.

The official title of the station is Áth Luain (Athlone). The various rooms in the station are named bi-lingually in accordance with their purposes, Battery Room, Control Room, Machinery Hall, etc., and no special sanction or selection was needed for this.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, might I ask whether I am right in assuming that the reports which have been broadcast from "MacEntee Hall" are incorrect?

Oh, surely not!

Mr. Boland

I never heard them.

Might I suggest to the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs that it is a very appropriate name, seeing that people can turn the speech off when they like?

I am accepting the notice given by Deputy McGilligan of his intention to raise on the adjournment certain matters arising out of Question Number 1.
