Vol. 50 No. 3

Written Answers. - Mayo Old Age Pension Claims.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that Mrs. Anne Kennedy, Ballintaffy, Claremorris, was recommended an old age pension of 10/- per week by the Claremorris sub-Committee in November, 1932; that an appeal was made by the Pension Officer against the recommendation of the sub-Committee; that claimant complied with the requirements of the Old Age Pensions Act, 1932, and if he will state the reasons for reducing the claimant's pension to 5/- per week.

I am aware of the circumstances leading up to the submission of an appeal against the decision of the local sub-Committee in this case. The case was investigated locally by one of this Department's inspectors. After making deduction of the usual outgoings, the annual value of the claimant's means was ascertained to be £27 15s. The pension of 5/- per week is that appropriate to an income of this amount.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state why the applications of Bryan and Catherine Lavin, Thornhill, Kiltimagh, County Mayo, for an increase of their old age pensions were not submitted to the sub-Committee for recommendation, and if he will state on what grounds their applications were refused.

No representations by way of appeal or otherwise have been made to me in this case and I have, accordingly, no information as to any grounds for complaint in which the Department could be involved.
