asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries what was the total amount of kelp purchased under the auspices of his Department in the years 1931, 1932, and 1933 respectively, and what price per ton (on the basis of I iodine content) was paid in each year.

The quantities of kelp dealt with by the Department in the years 1931, 1932 and 1933 were 2,681 tons, 3,533 tons, and 4,559 tons respectively, and the prices paid £7 12s. 11d., £6 17s. 4d., and £5 4s. 3d. per ton. These prices represented 21/10, 17/2, and 13/0½d. per 0.1 per cent. iodine in the kelp.
