Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchase of Carrageen.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries what was the total amount of carrageen purchased under the auspices of his Department in the years 1931, 1932 and 1933, respectively, and what was the price per stone paid each year for (a) best quality carrageen, and (b) other carrageen.

The quantities of carrageen dealt with by the Department in the years 1931, 1932 and 1933 were 257 tons, 270 tons, and 174 tons, respectively. In each of these years the price paid for first grade carrageen was 2/6 per stone. The price paid for second grade carrageen in 1931 and 1932 was 2/- per stone, and in 1933, 1/6 per stone.
