asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether any of the Department's industrial centres (knitting, weaving, etc.), which were in existence on the 1st April, 1932, have since been closed; if so, how many have been closed, and where they were situated.
The industrial centre engaged on poplin weaving at Anagry, Co. Donegal, was closed down on 21st ultimo, as it was failing to show justification for the amount that was being expended upon it.
Work at the centre at Glengarriff, Co. Cork, is at the moment temporarily suspended pending the appointment of a successor to the manageress recently deceased.
The machine knitting centre at Keel, Achill Island, is at the moment idle owing to the refusal of the workers to accept the standard piece-work rates for particular garments.
The hand-knitting centre at Termon, Co. Donegal, is at the moment not operating pending the appointment of a successor to the manageress dismissed on 13th instant.
