Vol. 50 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Afforestation in Mallow Mountains.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if further local representations have been made to him as to the suitability of the Knockavadra Mountains, Being, Mallow, for afforestation, and if he proposes to have this area or any part of it planted.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative.

The acquisition of the lands in question has been under consideration, but the area which has been definitely offered for sale contains so small a proportion of land suitable for economic afforestation that the formation of a new forest unit in the district would at present be impracticable. If additional lands suitable for afforestation purposes can be obtained in the district, the question will at once be reconsidered.
