Vol. 51 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rent for Turbary in County Mayo.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that John Durcan, Kilquire, Kilmaine, County Mayo, and fourteen other tenants on the De Clifford estate were provided with free turbary plots in Ballycushen Bog by the Congested Districts Board in 1918; that the Irish Land Commission have recently sent demand notes for rent for those bog plots; if he is aware that the tenants have refused to pay any rent for such plots, which they have enjoyed free for the past 16 years, and if he will now state whether the Land Commission will discontinue further proceedings for the collection of such rent.

Since the Deputy first put this Question on the Order Paper on the 21st ultimo, I have had the matter investigated and have, as I promised, communicated with the Deputy by letter during the recess informing him of the result of my inquiries. The matter has been satisfactorily adjusted and the proceedings discontinued.
