Vol. 51 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Glynsk (Galway) Assault Cases.

(Galway) asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that Michael Conneran, John Mulligan, Patrick Muldoon, John Kelly, Thomas Currey and Andrew Conneran were set upon and attacked on Sunday, 11th March, 1934, as they were going into 11.30 a.m. Mass at Glynsk Chapel, Co. Galway, and that Andrew Conneran was struck with a butcher's steel and rendered unconscious and as a result has been under the doctor's care for the last month; if investigations have been made by the Gárda Síochána in the matter, and if it is proposed to institute proceedings against the persons implicated in those assaults.

I am aware that the six persons named, who appear to be members of the Blue Shirt Organisation, took part in an unseemly brawl outside the chapel at Glynsk, Co. Galway, on the date mentioned and that one of the Blue Shirts received a head injury. The matter has been investigated by the police and I am informed that criminal proceedings are pending. In the circumstances I do not propose to say anything further in regard to this matter at the present time.
