Vol. 51 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Recovery of Costs in Personation Cases.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state (a) the amount of the costs granted against Mary Duff, Matthew Coughlan, Thomas Mitchell and Leo Joseph Fitzgerald in connection with court proceedings for the offence of personation, and (b) if these costs have as yet been recovered from them.

No costs were awarded in any of these cases in the District or Circuit Courts. Costs were, however, awarded against these persons in the certiorari proceedings in the High Court. The recovery of such costs is not a matter for my Department.

May I ask the Minister if, in fact, he has ascertained whether these costs have been recovered.

I have not.

I ask because the Minister may be aware. It may be a matter for the Attorney-General but, as the Attorney-General does not answer questions in this House, this question has been submitted to the Minister.

It is a matter for the Chief State Solicitor.
