Vol. 51 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Annuities Unpaid.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the number of decrees for unpaid land annuities which his Department has placed with the Sheriff of Donegal in the last three months; and how many of these decrees have been executed.

During the last three months 903 warrants have been issued under Section 28 of the Land Act, 1933, to the sheriff for County Donegal. The sheriff has made a return in 229 cases in which the debt has been recovered in full.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary say how many of these warrants are for lands purchased under the 1923 and subsequent Acts, and how many for lands purchased under previous Acts?

Obviously, I could not answer that question without prior notice.

Does the Parliamentary Secretary not see that there is a big difference between the two sets. In the one case the British Government collected the annuities and there are no arrears, and in the other a case might be made for arrears?
