The portion of the Unemployment Assistance Act, 1933, authorising applications for unemployment assistance was, by order made under the Act, brought into operation on the 18th April, 1934. No unemployment assistance is payable for the first six weeks of continuous unemployment. The first week, therefore, for which unemployment assistance could be due is the week ended to-day, and payment of unemployment assistance for this week will be made on Thursday next, the 3rd May, 1934.
