Vol. 52 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grants for Public Works.

Mr. Daly

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state when the grants, already sanctioned by the Department, in respect of (1) the Fermoy and Grange water supply; (2) the Kilworth drainage extension and (3) the Glanworth sewerage scheme will be made available to the North Cork Board of Public Health and further if the matter will be expedited to enable work on these necessary schemes to be commenced as soon as possible and so relieve the unemployment existing in these areas.

No grants are at present allocated to these works. As regards the provision of water supply for the Grange district, the proposed use of the water main at Moore Park has been the subject of negotiations between the Cork Board of Public Health and Commissioners of Public Works and the requisite permission to use the pipe-line will necessitate the issue by the Minister for Finance of a lease or licence under the State Lands Act, 1924. When the necessary rights have been duly acquired by the board of health the application for grants will receive consideration.

The sewerage extension at Kilworth at an estimated cost of £150 is being defrayed by way of a loan from the Local Loans Fund. The loan was sanctioned on the 17th instant.

My Department has received no plans or other details of the proposed sewerage scheme for Glanworth. The allocation of a grant cannot be considered until full documents relating to the proposed scheme have been submitted by the board of public health.
