Vol. 52 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irremore (Listowel) Incidents.

asked the Minister for Justice if he has received a report that 50 armed men paraded through Irremore, near Listowel, on the night of Saturday, the 12th May, and carried out raids on the homes of several members of the League of Youth; and if he will state whether the persons responsible for this offence have been identified and charged.

As court proceedings have already been instituted in this case, I do not think it proper to make any statement.

Is the Minister aware that the Press reports say that 50 armed men paraded on this occasion and that the court proceedings would indicate that three men have been detained and charged with the larceny of shirts? Does the Minister consider that the situation will be adequately dealt with when these charges have been driven home in the case of the three men charged?

I do not know about that. There may be further charges brought. I do not think, however, that at this stage I should say any thing further about them.
