Vol. 53 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - A Dunmanway Incident.

asked the Minister for Justice if he has received any report from the Superintendent of the Gárda Síochána at Clonakilty relative to complaints made to him about the conduct of two members of the special unit of the Gárda in Dunmanway who, on the 14th May, held up in the street of that town a man named Burke, a law-abiding citizen, struck him in the ribs and face, told him to hand over money and everything he had, that they (the special unit) were the "bosses" now and would see that he would lose his job as water bailiff, and also his reserve pay and if he will state what disciplinary action has been taken or is intended to be taken in this case.

I have received a report regarding the matter referred to in the first part of the question. As regards the second part, no disciplinary action has been or is intended to be taken, as the Gárda authorities are satisfied that the allegations made are without foundation.
