Vol. 53 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Purchase Terms.

asked the Minister for Lands if he can state, having regard to the halving of the annuities, whether a person who regularly pays the half-yearly instalment of revised annuity beginning on 1st November, 1933, will become the absolute owner of the lands in respect of which such revised annuity is payable at the end of the redemption period provided for in the original purchase contract in the case of lands purchased under the Act of 1923, and, if not, whether it is intended to introduce proposals for legislation to amend the purchase terms in the matter of the redemption period.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The second part does not, therefore, arise.

Arising out of the answer I should like to know if the terms of the original purchase agreement have been broken by the halving of the annuities and in view of the issue of new receivable orders? If no change has been made in the contractual terms, I should like to know why statements have been made in this House that in future the title of the farmer to his lands was the use he made of them?

No change in title has been made.
