Vol. 53 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Export of Calf Skins.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state how many calf skins were exported from the Free State during the month of June; how many calves were slaughtered during that period; how many of the carcases were sold as veal, and how many were used to feed pigs and dogs.

Dr. Ryan

The number of calf skins exported during the period 1st-26th June was 30,685. It is not possible to state how many calves were slaughtered in that period, as the bounty scheme takes into consideration only the inspection and export of calf skins, irrespective of the date of slaughter. Carcases were disposed of in various ways, but there is no information available as to the number disposed of in any particular manner.
