Vol. 53 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Alleged Attack on Bus.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state whether he is aware that at Ballybunion on the night of the 1st July, a bus, leaving for Listowel, was violently attacked by stones and other missiles, the glass broken and several passengers injured; and that it was subsequently held up by force and boarded by a number of men and the passengers ill-treated and terrified; and if he will state whether the persons who committed this offence have been identified and charged.

The incidents which appear to have given rise to the Deputy's question are likely to be the subject of proceedings in the District Court. In these circumstances I do not think it proper that the matter should be discussed in this House. At the same time I must say that, from the information at my disposal, the Deputy has apparently been completely misinformed as to what actually did occur at Ballybunion on the occasion referred to.

When is it likely that these proceedings in the District Court will be instituted?

They have been instituted.
