Vol. 53 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Strength of Civil Service.

asked the Minister for Finance if he would state (1) the number of persons (a) male and (b) female in the Civil Service in each of the financial years 1931-1932, 1932-33, and 1933-1934; and (2) the total amount of the salaries paid to civil servants in each of the above-mentioned years.

As the answer to this question contains a considerable number of figures, I shall circulate it with the Official Report.

The reply is as follows:—

The returns of numbers, etc. of persons employed in the Civil Service are made on 1st January in each year and show the actual position at that date. The following details taken from these returns will perhaps suffice for the purposes of the Deputy's question.
