Vol. 54 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment In Building Trades.

Mr. Murphy

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he can state the number of persons normally employed in the building trades (setting out separately the figures for each craft and for builders' labourers) who were registered as unemployed at each of the following dates in the present year, i.e., 1st August, 1st May, 1st October, or the nearest dates for which figures are available.

The information which the Deputy desires is not available for the dates specified. The following are the figures for 3rd April and 2nd July. Corresponding figures for 7th October have not yet been compiled. I would ask the Deputy to repeat his request for the October figures in a month's time. The rest of the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, and will be circulated with the Official Debates. Following is the statement.

I regret the information asked for is not available in my Department.
