Vol. 54 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Bus Services.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that since the amalgamation of the transport service the existing bus services in the City of Dublin are inadequate in certain areas, and if he is in a position to state what are the reasons for this state of affairs, and what steps, if any, he has taken or proposes to take to bring about an improvement.

I am aware that the difficulties normally to be encountered in a large-scale reorganisation of transport facilities such as that in which the Dublin United Tramways Company are at present engaged have been aggravated by certain factors including (1) the low state of repair in which many of the vehicles transferred were found to be; and (2) the uncertainty as to the future which continued representations against the transfer of licences involved. I have no reason to think, however, that the difficulties which have been encountered will not be surmounted in due course.
