asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in respect of each of the years 1932, 1933 and 1934 (1) the total amounts payable by land purchase annuitants for (a) interest on advances and (b) sinking fund under the Land Acts prior to 1923, as amended by recent legislation varying these payments, and (2) the amounts which under the said Land Acts would have been payable for (a) and (b) above if the said amending legislation had not been passed; and if he will state further if in these years any sums have been applied for such sinking fund purposes or have been placed in a suspense account and reserved for such purposes.

The reply to this Question is in the form of a tabular statement which will be circulated in the Official Reports. As final figures for the November-December gale, 1934, are not yet available, the required information is furnished in respect of the six preceding gales.

The revised annuities payable under the provisions of the Land Act, 1933, are not segregated into interest and sinking fund payments.

In addition to the above, there were payable by land purchase annuitants under the Land Acts, 1881-1888, the following amounts:—

Gale

£

December, 1931

102,464

June, 1932

102,340

102,292

June, 1933

102,239

December, 1933

51,114

June, 1934

51,080

The above payments were never segregated into sinking fund and interest.

No records have been kept as to the amounts which would have been payable if amending legislation had not been passed.

The sinking fund receipts in respect of the gale, November-December, 1931, were paid over to the British National Debt Commissioners. Subsequent receipts were paid into the Exchequer under statutory authority.
