Vol. 54 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Military Tribunal Convictions.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he will state how many persons have been convicted by the Military Tribunal since September 1st, 1933, under the Constitution (Amendment No. 17) Act, (including those irregularly convicted and released); and how many of such persons were members of (a) the League of Youth or its predecessor, the Young Ireland Association and (b) the organisation known as the Irish Republican Army.

The total number of convictions by the Constitution (Special Powers) Tribunal from 1st September, 1933 to 5th February, 1935, was 513. As regards the second part of the question, the answers, according to the best information at my disposal, are (a) 375, (b) 138.

I desire to give notice that I will raise the question of the administration of this Act on the Motion for the Adjournment to-night.

I should like to see the Deputy on that matter in the interim. Major questions of policy are not suitable for discussion on the Motion for the Adjournment.
