Vol. 54 No. 12

In Committee. - Criminal Law Amendment Bill, 1934—From the Seanad—In Committee.

I do not propose to accept the following amendment which was inserted by the Seanad, and I move that the Committee disagree with the Seanad:

Section 14. The word "fifteen" deleted in line 6 and the word "eighteen" substituted therefor.

The age of seventeen in the case of carnal knowledge was set out in the Bill and it is clearly absurd to set out the age as "eighteen." The matter came before a committee, where it received full consideration and it was reconsidered and the age of fifteen years was inserted.

Question put and agreed to.
Disagreement with the amendment reported.
Report agreed to.
Ordered: That the Seanad be notified accordingly.
