Vol. 54 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Consultative Councils.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the number of consultative councils established up to date under Section 19 of the Local Government Act, 1925, the composition of the councils so established, and the extent to which they have been consulted in connection with matters affecting the health of the people.

No consultative council has yet been established. It is, however, the custom of the Department to consult informally the various medical, nursing and other organisations interested in public health administration. The establishment of the Hospitals Commission put at the disposal of the Department an advisory body dealing with important branches of medical organisation. The unification of approved societies has rendered the creation of a consultative body in connection with insurance less urgent.
