asked the Minister for Finance if he will state (1) the total number of persons chargeable with sur-tax in respect of the years 1932-33 and 1933-34, (2) the total income on which sur-tax was chargeable, and (3) the total amount of the sur-tax charged thereon in each year.

Assessments to sur-tax may be made for the year 1932-33 up to the 5th April, 1939, and for the year 1933-34 up to the 5th April, 1940. Complete statistics for these years are not yet available as regards (1) the total number of persons chargeable with sur-tax; (2) the total income on which sur-tax is chargeable, and (3) the total amount of the sur-tax charged, but the latest information indicates that the figures will be approximately as follow:—
