Vol. 55 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water Schemes in North Tipperary.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that owing to the undue delay in preparing plans for the provision of water schemes for Newport, Ballina, Borrisokane and Cloughjordan the North Tipperary Board of Health is now in the position that they must either bear full cost of such schemes or have them further delayed; and if he will state when grants will be made available and the amounts to be allocated for each scheme, and further, if we will hold an inquiry into the matter with a view to ascertaining who is responsible for the unreasonable delay in proceeding with those schemes.

I am aware that the preparation of plans took a considerable time and that they were not submitted to the Department in final form until all grants for the present financial year had been fully allocated. No further funds will be available until the financial year commencing 1st April next. I cannot anticipate a decision of the Dáil voting such funds in the coming year and I therefore cannot state the amount of any grant that may be allocated towards a specific scheme from such funds when voted. The matter referred to in the last part of the Deputy's question is one for the Tipperary Board of Health.
