Vol. 55 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sea Fishing Boats in the Saorstát.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the total number of boats of all classes, owned, manned and registered in the Irish Free State, engaged in sea fishing (other than salmon fishing) as at the 31st December, 1934, and if he will state the total weight and value of the sea fish landed by such boats for the year ended 31st December at the following points:—Howth, Valentia, Arklow, Dingle, Dublin, Fenit, Cork, Galway, Dunmore, Rosslare, Dungarvan, Union Hall, Youghal, Kilrush, Kinsale, Baltimore, Castletownbere and Ballycotton.

As the reply consists mainly of a tabular statement I am circulating it through the official report. The reply is as follows:—

In furnishing the Deputy with the following information, I desire to point out that no record is kept of boats participating in salmon fishing only as distinguished from those which engage generally in sea fishing operations.

I. Number of boats of all classes owned, manned and registered in the Irish Free State which engaged in sea fishing during year ended 31st December, 1934, from the following places on the coast.

II. Weight and value of sea fish landed by such boats during the year ended 31st December, 1934, at these places.
