Vol. 55 No. 10

Pigs and Bacon Bill, 1934—Second Stage.

Question—"That the Pigs and Bacon Bill, 1935, be read a Second Time"—put and agreed to.

Dr. Ryan

I move:—

That the Pigs and Bacon Bill, 1934, be referred to a Special Committee consisting of fifteen Deputies, to be nominated by the Committee of Selection; that the first meeting of the Special Committee be held on Thursday, 28th March, 1935; and that the quorum of the Committee be seven.

Does that mean that amendments to the Bill have to be in by Thursday next?

Dr. Ryan

No, but I would propose very strongly that the amendments be in early the following week, say by Monday, because unless we get through the Committee Stage in the following week, it would be impossible to have the Bill out of the Dáil before Easter. If amendments are in by Monday week, I think it would suit.

Amendments will have to be in by then?

Dr. Ryan

I cannot say that definitely, but I am going to ask the Committee to fix that date.

The Dáil adjourned at 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, 27th March, 1935.
