Vol. 55 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork City Manager's Deputy.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he can state the amount which the City Manager of Cork proposes to allow to the City Engineer for deputising for the City Manager during illness; what the salary of the City Engineer is, and whether he is aware that the City Manager is reported as stating at a recent meeting of the Cork Corporation that no application for the proposed allowance was made, and whether it is proposed to sanction the payment.

No submission has been made to me in connection with the matter. I shall ascertain the salary of the Cork City Engineer and send the information to the Deputy, if he cannot obtain it locally.

Is the Minister aware that the majority of the Cork Corporation decided that this allowance was properly made and paid? Is he further aware that it is a well-established trade union principle that overtime must be paid for?
