Vol. 55 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Turbary on County Donegal Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he has taken any steps with reference to the supply of turbary on the estate of the Earl of Mountcharles in County Donegal referred to in the Land Commission correspondence on the 11th May, 1931, P. (A) 18848/31.

The letter of the 11th May, 1931, referred to by the Deputy, concerns the turbary supply for tenants on the Mountcharles estate in the neighbourhood of the townland of Belcruit. The question of acquiring turbary in the locality for the use of these tenants is receiving consideration and the matter is being dealt with as expeditiously as possible.

Does the Parliamentary Secretary realise that the terms of his answer are identical with a letter which was dated the 11th of May, 1931 —four years ago—when we were informed that the matter was being dealt with as expeditiously as possible? Surely he does not imagine that that is an adequate answer to my question after four years have elapsed?

Steps are being taken to provide at least a number of these tenants with turbary.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary prepared to say that before the end of this year turbary will be supplied to these tenants on the estate referred to in the Land Commission correspondence?

I am not prepared to make any definite promise, but anything that is possible to be done is being done.

Does the Parliamentary Secretary realise that, four years ago, everything was being done, and that nothing has happened?
