Vol. 55 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - A Donegal Seizure.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that the under-sheriff for the Donegal circuit seized on foot of a warrant issued by the Land Commission for a sum of £3 3s. 9d. a horse, cart, harness, pigs' cart-cover, and two overcoats, of a total value of £60, belonging to John Campbell, Tawney Lower, Kilmacrenan, County Donegal, on his way home from a recent fair at Letterkenny; and that after the seizure John Campbell had to walk home, a distance of seven miles; if he is aware that the bailiffs on a previous occasion visited this man's lands and were pointed out eleven slip pigs valued at 35/- each, and two brood sows, which could have been taken on foot of the warrant, and if he will state the reasons why this man's horse, etc., were seized subsequently under the circumstances as detailed, and why the horse in particular was seized at a time when a horse is much needed by a farmer.

From the information before me I cannot agree that the facts of this case as supplied to the Deputy are full or correct.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, does the Minister contradict the implications in the question? Further, I should like to ask the Minister is there no limit to the property which may be seized on foot of a decree?

Dr. Ryan

That is a different question.

I should like to ask the Minister if he is prepared to give any information on this, or is it too troublesome a question for him to give away anything on? There are many more supplementary questions that I want to put to the Minister, but he is afraid to answer.

Dr. Ryan

I am not a bit afraid.

Well, I give notice, Sir, that I shall raise this matter on the adjournment, and we can discuss it then.
