Vol. 55 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Executive Council and British Empire Defence.

asked the President whether his attention was directed to the announcement in the British House of Commons on April 2nd that arrangements are being made for an informal discussion on Empire defence; whether an invitation to take part in these discussions has been received by the Executive Council and whether it is the intention of the Government to participate in any conference convened for this purpose.

I assume the Deputy's question has reference to the replies given by the British Prime Minister in the House of Commons on the 2nd April. I have read these replies and can find in them no statement that arrangements are being made for a discussion on British Empire defence. No invitation to take part in any such discussion has been received by the Executive Council and the matter has consequently not been considered.
