Vol. 56 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Damage to Property Compensation Acts.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state when it is proposed to make payments to applicants under the Damage to Property Compensation Acts in cases where awards have been made in the courts as far back as October, 1934.

The examination and payment of reports and decrees made under the Damage to Property (Compensation) (Amendment) Act, 1933, are already proceeding with all possible expedition. Payments are made as far as possible in order of priority in accordance with the dates of lodgment of awards in my Department. It has not yet been found possible to reach upon the payment of awards made at the October sittings of the Circuit Courts. It may be mentioned that a considerable period frequently elapses between the date of the making of a report in court and its lodgment in the Department of Finance, where it has subsequently to be examined.

Will the Minister say approximately for what month in 1934 payments have already been made.

It varies in some cases.

Can we take it from the Minister's reply that all the payments have been made up to June, 1934?

The Deputy can take it, but not on my responsibility.
