Vol. 56 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Teachers' Training Costs.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state the number of persons trained as national teachers who have not secured employment as teachers or taken up teaching in secondary schools as at March 31st, 1935, to whom application was made for a refund of the cost of their training and the result of such applications.

Apart from ex-students entering the Civil Service who are required under Rule 124(37) of the Code to repay to the Department any money expended by the State upon their training for the position of teacher in national schools, there are at present only three cases of fully-trained teachers who have been asked to refund the cost of their training. In one of these cases, suitable arrangements for the refund have been made; in the other two cases correspondence is proceeding.
