Vol. 56 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Milk for Necessitous School Children.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state in respect of each county borough, urban district, and county board of health district the total sum expended in the two last financial years in providing free milk for necessitous school children.

The transfer to sanitary authorities of the arrangements for the supply of free milk for necessitous children at the cost of the National Free Milk Supply Grant did not come into operation until the 1st October, 1933, and the information asked for is therefore only available for the half-year ended 31st March, 1934 out of the financial year 1933-4. I will arrange to have printed in the Official Report a return of the expenditure of each sanitary authority during that half-year on the provision of free milk. It will be noted that no free milk supply scheme was established in that half-year by the Urban District Councils of Bundoran, Killarney, Letterkenny, or Listowel or by the Longford Board of Health and Public Assistance. Information will not be available for some time as regards the total expenditure of each sanitary authority on the provision of free milk during the year ended 31st March, 1935, as the returns have not yet been received from the local bodies concerned.

Following is the return:—

NATIONAL FREE MILK SUPPLY GRANT.

Table showing expenditure on the provision of milk by the Sanitary Authority of each Sanitary District in respect of the half-year from 1st October, 1933 to 31st March, 1934.
